Continuing Professional Teacher Development

One of SACE’s main functions is therefore to promote and facilitate the professional development of all teachers regardless of whether they are employed by the state, SGBs or independent schools. The main ideas behind the CPTD system are to encourage teachers to become better at their jobs and to ensure that school communities become better sites of teaching, learning and development.
The CPTD system is designed to assist teachers in focussing their professional development (PD) activities so they can get good value from such activities whether undertaken on their own, in school or externally.

Clearance Certificates

Chapter 6 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007 (SORMAA) makes it mandatory for employers of people working with children to check that their employees are not listed on the National Register for Sex Offenders and to obtain a clearance certificate for every employee.

Policies

Policy on Condom Promotion

This policy was developed with the purpose of assisting teachers in Catholic schools to implement HIV prevention strategies that are inline with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Anti-bullying policy

The purpose of this policy is to set out the school's stance to bullying, and outline how schools will respond to incidents of bullying.

Substance abuse policy

This policy has been drawn up in order to confront the reality of substance abuse in a responsible and  constructive manner. Where substance abuse occurs, the underlying aim is to change behaviour rather than enact punitive measures, and in so doing develop and maintain healthy levels of self-confidence and self-worth.

Developing a Substance Misuse Policy

The following guidelines provide a checklist for formulating a school Substance Misuse Policy. Remember that schools vary, and face different issues and that this should be kept in mind when developing the policy.
