Hope&Joy for the World Art Competition
January 16, 2012
Around 50 years ago in 1960, Pope John XXIII announced that he would be calling an Ecumenical Council of the Church. After many years of the Church being closed off from the world, he announced that he would be opening the windows and letting in fresh air. 2011 will mark the 50th anniversary of the formal summoning of the Council; 2012 will mark the 50th anniversary of the start of the Council in October 1962.
‘Hope & Joy’ is a network that aims to enable organisations, including Catholic schools, to mark in a significant way, the anniversary of the Council. It hopes to reinvigorate those older members of the community who remember the Council and to help younger ones to understand its message and be inspired by it.
We therefore invite all Catholic schools to participate in a competition that will encourage learners to reflect on key themes and ideas emanating from the Council.
