Life skills training makes all the difference

It is compulsory for all learners who enroll at skills centres affiliated with the CIE Thabiso Skills Institute to attend a Life Skills Programme before they participate in any hard or soft skills programmes.   The centre management and staff, as well as companies where learners have been placed for workplace based learning, notice a significant difference in attitude from the learners who have attended the CIE Thabiso Life Skills programme.

Preparing learners for the world of work and life is the role of the Life Skills Facilitator. In May, facilitators spent two days reflecting on the three modules of the CIE Thabiso Life Skills programme that cover the following topics:

  • Self-awareness
  • Developing Trust Relationships
  • Building a Learning Environment – Core Values
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making
  • Team Building
  • Communication Skills
  • Preparing CVs
  • Interviews and Interview Skills
  • Dealing with Conflict and Criticism
  • Setting Goals
  • Starting your Own Business
  • Gender Equality and Respect
  • Compassion, Personal Rights and Honesty
  • Responsibility, Self-Control and Resources
  • HIV/Aids/other and Perseverance
  • Substance Dependence and Peer Pressure.
