Sizwe Nxasana to deliver 14th Brenninkmeijer Lecture, celebrating 40 years of CIE

On the 23rd of June 2025, CIE will celebrate our 40th anniversary with the presentation of the 14th Bishop Hans Brenninkmeijer Memorial Lecture, delivered by renowned educationalist and Catholic school alumnus Mr Sizwe Nxasana. The lecture will be followed by a Thanksgiving Mass and a Cocktail Party, and will be hosted at Holy Family College in Parktown, Johannesburg. Abridged Bio: Sizwe Nxasana

Founder & CEO: Sifiso Learning Group

 Mr Sizwe Nxasana holds a BCom, BCompt (Hons), Chartered Accountant (South Africa) qualifications. Sizwe was conferred with honorary doctorates by the Universities of Fort Hare, the Durban University of Technology, the University of Johannesburg, Walter Sisulu University and UNISA. He is currently a PhD candidate at Aalborg University in Denmark and his research interest is Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in the South African K12 context.

Sizwe is a former Chief Executive Officer of Telkom South Africa Limited and was responsible for its listing on the Johannesburg and New York Stock exchanges. He was also the CEO of FirstRand Banking Group from 2005 until he retired in September 2015. Sizwe Nxasana serves as Chairman on various Foundations and Trusts. He is the chairman of the UJ Johannesburg Business School (JBS) International Advisory Board and is a member of the Joint Advisory Board of Carnegie Mellon University – Africa. He is also a Board member of MarketPlace Academy NPO (MPA) and the Independent Examinations Board (IEB).

Sizwe is the Co-founder and Chairman of the South African National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT). He is the Founder and Chairman of Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) which funds and supports students who come from poor and “missing middle” backgrounds in South Africa.

Sizwe is now a social entrepreneur who founded Future Nation Schools and Future Nation Teacher College in South Africa. He also founded Sifiso Learning Group which is involved in EdTech, academic and non-academic publishing and real estate.
