On 9 February 2026, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), through the Office of Commissioner Tshepo Madlingozi (Education and Equality Focal Areas), convened a Stakeholder Roundtable on Sexual Violence at Schools. The Roundtable brought together key state institutions, regulatory bodies, independent school associations, and civil society partners to interrogate systemic failures and collaborative solutions in addressing sexual violence in South African schools.
The engagement followed a formal human rights complaint received by the Commission concerning allegations of sexual violence perpetrated by educators at St John’s College in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.
The CIE's Deputy Director, Mduduzi Qwabe, presented at this roundtable: the report has just come out, and you can download it here.
