Relebohile Shelby Maseko, a young woman from Bohlokong in Bethlehem, is a passionate model who likes the finer things in life. After completing matric she started followingYouTube tutorials on face beauty make-up.
Since then her passion for beauty has only grown.
She has received compliments for her make-up and many people have asked her to do their make-up – which she gladly does. For her, this was more of a hobby and not an income-making venture.
However, when she heard of a nail tech and face beauty course offered by the Bethlehem Basic Training Project (BBTP), she jumped at the opportunity.
Shelby was part of the first cohort of 10 students who attended the pilot nail tech and face beauty course at BBTP in October 2023, and was excited to learn more about various beauty techniques and expand her knowledge in this field. After the training BBTP presented her with a beauty start-up kit so that she could immediately begin working.
She says, “I started the Shelby M Beauty Spa, which is a business I want to see grow. I hope to open a beauty spa in town soon. Since December 2023 I have serviced at least 15 clients a month, which has provided me with a steady income.
“I am thankful to BBTP for the SMME training we received after our occupational training. I now know how to do my cash flow and monthly accounts. I am planning to expand my business and hope to employ at least one more person.”
